Meh

The animation was awesome and the music went pretty well, but the story wasn't very original. And why isn't it ever "they took my husband"? HUH?!? HUH???? WHY DOES THE WOMAN NEVER GET TO BE THE CRAZY HERO?!!!!!!! DAMN YOUUUU!!! No, I'm not completely serious. This was good, just not such a great plot.

Another that misses the mark...

You're just chock full of melodrama, aren't ya? The best thing about your animations are the selection of appropriate, and good, music -- as well as the original-looking characters and dramatic imagery. But add those all together and you don't necessarily get a good story (or film or flash or book etc).
I apologize, but you're one of the most overrated flash artists on NG.

Melodramatic, and mediocre at best.

It would take up entirely too much room to explain exactly what's wrong or missing with "Smile", and I don't feel like wasting that much thinking time or NG space. People who are trying to say how "deep" it is and how it's "political" and such are, I think, reeeeally off. Someone said it made them think of highschool, and I agree more with that than the others. You had a message, but you didn't convey it well or particularly artisticly -- just (melo)dramatically. This reminded me of tons of similar films and flashes, some of which did the thing right and some of which were very crappy. My friend said "Smile" reminded him of the book 1984. I guess everyone gets their own message from "Smile", but personally I think it's mediocre at best. I get the impression that the creator is probably actually cooler and capable of cooler things than this animation.

Very sweet. Could've been better, but hey. I'm gonna show it to my baby sister. ;) I especially like the animation -- pretty original. Definitely, however, as has been said, more something for kids than for the NG perverts. :P

Was there a story to this? If it wasn't called "the escape", I think I would have been TOTALLY lost as to what's supposed to be going on. The animation was pretty good, and the music was pretty neat, but I dunno.... People running and floating, blood spurting... The end. It was hard to even stay focused. Sorry.

I'll have you know this is the first GOOD thing I watched on Newgrounds. It convinced me to keep coming. The music is great, and the way the yellow blobby thing moves, and the witch's house, and the cool Bitey guy, and that other thing! The atmosphere and backgrounds and neat little characters remind me of Zelda games and Princess Mononoke. hah. Good stuff!!

I really liked the graphics and the style, but I know that joke. Isn't it from the movie Return of the Pink Panther? Still, the animation was neat, and the timing was pretty good, so nice work...
